I've always loved the game of checkers. And chess, though admittedly I never played either very often. But from time to time, it inspires me to make a Game Board. This board, No. 1979, is made of Walnut, Maple (thin border), Red Oak (side A) and Emerald Epoxy (side B). I had the idea for this in my mind, but building it was a little trickier than I thought. It was rewarding and satisfying in the same way a game of chess can be.
The playing board measures 12.5 inches square and is approximately 1 inch thick. It is finished with durable, food grade mineral oil and bees wax. There are two different playable side for use: the side with Walnut and Red Oak squares OR the side with Walnut and epoxy squares. Or if you're not feeling either... you can use in the kitchen for food!
